NISQUALLY VALLEY FLY FISHING
Catch and Release Procedure
Careful handling of the fish will greatly increase it's probability of survival. A fish that is carelessly handled may appear healthy when it swims away. Injuries may have occured with improper handling that don't affect the fish til later. Please read and follow these guidelines in the handling of the trout.
- Use barbless hooks and back the hooks out carefully using pliers or a catch and release tool.
- Have fun with the fish but do not play it too long. An exhausted fish is more likely to have trouble later.
- If the fish is tired, move it back and forth in the water to move water through its gills.
- Make sure your hands are wet when handling the fish. This protects the fish's protective slime.
- Try to keep the fish in the water at all times, except for taking pictures.
- Do not squeeze the fish, touch its eyes or gills, hold it up by the tail or let it flop on the shore.
We hope you enjoy your fishing experience at Nisqually Valley Fly Fishing. Following these simple guidlines will ensure the health of the trout for future anglers.
